St Andrews Students Succeed at Silverstone 🏎️
This summer, a group of students from the School of Computer Science and beyond competed in the Formula Student AI event at Silverstone. In the competition, teams write software for an autonomous racing car, competing on track with a provided car to navigate the track as fast as possible.
The St Andrews team was the highest-placed first-time entrant in the competition and overcame numerous technical challenges to successfully complete a fully autonomous lap. This is a fantastic achievement, especially for their first year in the competition.
The team’s first opportunity to run their software on a real car was at the competition, and so it is great to see that months of software development, testing, and simulation have paid off.
We look forward to seeing how the team builds on this success for next year. Well done to all the students involved!
